Senior Backend Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and evolve robust backend services in a modern cloud-native environment. You will be responsible for end-to-end service ownership, from architecture and development to production monitoring and incident response. The role also involves raising engineering standards, mentoring team members, and contributing to technical process improvements.

Job Details
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable, production-ready backend services using Kotlin and Java.
- Work with frameworks such as Spring and Quarkus.
- Architect systems with long-term scalability, maintainability, and reliability in mind.
- Own observability for your domain, including SLIs, metrics, dashboards, alerting, and Grafana.
- Lead cross-service debugging and support incident response.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Gradle.
- Work in a cloud-native environment with Kubernetes and GitOps / Flux CD.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers within your product scope.
- Support adjacent teams in understanding the impact of your services.
- Mentor less senior engineers and promote technical best practices.
- Contribute to process improvements using delivery data and flow metrics.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments.
- Strong experience with Kotlin and/or Java.
- Hands-on experience with Spring and/or Quarkus.
- Good understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and microservices.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience with GitOps workflows, ideally Flux CD.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of Gradle.
- Experience with observability tools such as Grafana, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
- Security-conscious mindset, including secure design principles and security scanning tools.
- Experience owning a service domain end-to-end.
- Ability to lead technical discussions, incident response, and mentor other engineers.
Nice to have:
- Experience working in a Kanban environment.
- Exposure to flow metrics such as cycle time, throughput, and WIP.
- Experience with data-driven process improvement.
- Experience leading architecture reviews.
- Previous experience mentoring engineers or running knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Background in security assessment, secure design, or compliance-related engineering.
- Experience with load testing, stress testing, or performance profiling of backend services.
